LTTE targets more families for conscription

Those seeking higher education told to give brother/sister to Tigers:

The LTTE, the self-claimed sole representative of the Tamil people in the North-East has imposed yet another restriction on Tamil youth in the Vanni to curtail their university education by making it compulsory for one of their family members to join the Tiger outfit, for them to proceed to their respective universities to continue university education.

SAARC legal framework to counter terror

A common legal framework to be set up among the South Asia Association Regional Cooperation SAARC countries to counter terrorism will allow the region to combat terrorism on a common platform, Foreign Affairs Minister Rohitha Bogollagama said.

Govt. refutes Nowak's 'torture' statement

The Government yesterday refuted UN Special Rapporteur on Torture Manfred Nowak's statement to Untied Nations General Assembly's Third Committee that the practice of torture in Sri Lanka is "widespread", saying that he acknowledged torture is not systematic in the country during his tour here.

Dialog posts Rs 7.98bn profit in first 9 months

Dialog Telekom PLC - recorded a profit after tax of Rs. 7.98 bn up seven per cent relative to the nine months ended September 30, 2006. Company earnings comprise in the main of contributions from mobile business supplemented by earnings accruing from the company's International Business Operations and Internet Service Provider Operations.
