Royal wins Pereira Challenge Cup
Richard DWIGHT
TENNIS: The tennis team of Royal College proved formidable when they
made a clean sweep of their annual fourth encounter held at the Thomian
tennis courts last Saturday at Mt Lavinia.
This ‘Blues’ tennis tie between the two traditional rivals, commenced
in the year 2003 to perpetuate the memory of E.F.C. Pereira a revered
teacher of both schools. The Royalists won all 3 categories convincingly
to be awarded the E.F.C. Pereira challenge cup.
The former President of the Sri Lanka Tennis Association, D.L.
Seneviratne, who was the chief guest at the awards ceremony said that
all Royal-Thomian encounters were big matches and, that apart from
cricket, the two schools vie for challenge trophies at Rugby, hockey,
waterpolo and Rowing.
He concluded by saying that this tennis tie further goes to
strengthen the bonds between the two schools.
