Agrarian Services Act to be amended

COLOMBO: The Agricultural Development and Agrarian Services Development Ministry will make arrangements to amend the Agrarian Services Act, said Agrarian Services Department Commissioner General D.D. Waniganayake.

With the move land owners in the Wet and Dry Zones will be Encouraged to cultivate every inch of cultivable land under the “Lets grow and build the nation” policy legislation.

Once this amendment bill is passed in Parliament, after Cabinet approval land owners will be compelled to bring all abandoned arable land under the plough.

Steps have already been taken by the Ministry to provide free technical advice, agricultural equipment and fertiliser at reasonable price to farmers.
