Two soldiers shot by gangsters

MALIGAWATTE: Two soldiers were injured in a shoot out by suspected underworld gangsters last afternoon in Maligawatte, Military spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara said.

According to Brigadier Nanayakkara two soldiers on duty were injured when they were shot by the suspected underworld gangsters near the Darulsalam Vidyalaya, Maligawatte around 2.30 pm. Preliminary investigations revealed that the group of armed underworld gangsters arrived in a three-wheeler and fled after shooting the two soldiers on duty, he added.

The injured soldiers who sustained minor injuries were admitted to the Colombo National Hospital. Security Forces launched a search operation immediately after the incident.
