Jobs assured for Tharuna Aruna graduates

COLOMBO: The Ministry of Education has taken steps to absorb to the Government service all Tharuna Aruna graduates who have successfully undergone the training programme conducted by the Ministry of Education.

Accordingly, 2,088 graduates will be appointed to Government schools in all provinces except Western and Wayamba provinces as Management Assistants, Financial Assistants, Development Assistants and Planning Assistants from January 1, 2008.

Speaking to the Daily News, Education Minister Susil Premajayantha said that the Cabinet has given approval on Wednesday to the Education Ministry to recruit graduates who have completed the training programme under the Tharuna Aruna third programme.

Education Ministry sources pointed out that almost all graduates will be appointed to schools since there are many vacancies.

Therefore it was pointless to protest, causing heavy traffic congestion and causing severe hardship to civilians by blocking highways when the Cabinet has given the approval to recruit Tharuna Aruna graduates before the commencement of the protest.
