Tourism Ministry gives Rs 12 m for garbage disposal

The Ministry of Tourism has implemented a programme to distribute equipments to local bodies to collect and dispose garbage in areas where local and foreign tourists congregate.

This is an annual programme of the Ministry which is implemented with local bodies unable to buy equipment due to lack of funds.

This year the Ministry has allocated Rs 12 million for this project started in 2005.

Tourism Minister Milinda Moragoda approved the distribution of a tractor and two trailers each to the Puttalam Urban Council, Mahawa, Ja-ela, Hikkaduwa,Ella and Dambulla Pradeshiya Sabhas. Deputy Minister Tourism Faiszer Musthapa handed over the equipment to the heads of local bodies recently.
