CIFL Chairman remanded

COLOMBO: Central Investment and Finance Limited (CIFL) Chairman M. A.
Deepthi Perera was remanded by Colombo Chief Magistrate and Additional
District Judge Kusala Sarojini Weerawardena till September 17.
The Colombo Fraud Investigation Bureau (CFIB) told the Court that the
suspect, is alleged to have obtained a passport in 2000 using several
forged documents.
He is also alleged to have obtained a forged National Identity Card,
the CFIB officials told Court.
The CFIB officials in a report said, the investigations into the
incident have not been completed and objected to the suspect being
released on bail.
Judge Weerawardena directed the suspect to give a statement to the
CFIB officers and tender the passport that he had obtained in 2000.
Kalinga Indatissa, Senior Counsel for the suspect, moving for bail
submitted to court that his client is a company chairman and not
involved in forging any documents to obtain passports.
After submissions by the CFIB officials and the Senior Defence
Counsel, the Judge remanded the suspect till September 17 and directed
the CFIB to forward all the relevant documents to the Attorney General
for his observations.
