Six rat fever victims in last three months

MATARA: Another victim of leptospirosis (rat fever) admitted to Matara General Hospital with a history of high fever, died.

The victim Rammalgoda Mudalige Anulawathie (48) is the sixth person to die of rat fever within the last three months at the Matara General Hospital.

Twenty cases of deaths due to leptospirosis were detected at Matara General Hospital in January to December 2006, said the Inquirer into Sudden Deaths Matara T. M. Lalith de Silva.

The Inquest into the death of Rammalgoda Gamage Anulawathie (48) of Wellana-Weligama was held by the Inquirer into Sudden Deaths - Matara J. M. Lalith de Silva at the Matara General Hospital premises.

JMO Matara General Hospital and consultant Dr. L. B. M. Fernando conducted the autopsy.

P. C. Jayaweera of Weligama Police led evidence.

On the basis of Medical evidence a verdict of death due to leptospirosis was recorded.
