Work on water supply project resumes

COLOMBO: Work on the Kandy Adjacent Stage 1 water supply project which stalled half way will be restarted next month by the National Water Supply and Drainage Board.

The project will cater to, over 20,000 consumers in areas adjacent to Kandy city. These will include upper, lower and Central Heerassagala, Asgiriya, Dangolla, Elhena, Gohagoda Road, Akurana, Kulugammana and Thelambugahawatta areas.

A spokesman for the National Water Supply and Drainage Board said work on this project was suspended last year since Rs. 1500 million allocated for it was fully exhausted.

They are now able to recommence work on this project since another Rs. 3,000 million has been received as Japanese aid.
