Arpico supercentres awarded by Consumer Affairs Authority
Arpico Supercen- tres, owned and managed by Richard Pieris
Distributors, were recently conferred an award by the Consumer Affairs
Authority for engaging in fair and competitive trading practices,
offering a high level of service to consumers and for complying with the
provisions of the Consumer Affairs Authority Act, during the period of
the Sinhala and Hindu New Year 2007.
The award was presented by Mahinda Rajapaksa, President at a ceremony
at the Presidential Secretariat, attended by the Prime Minister, other
Ministers, Members of Parliament and the Chairman of the Consumer
Affairs Authority.
In keeping with the policy of the Government of Sri Lanka to provide
for the better protection of consumers through the regulation of trade
and the prices of goods and services as well as to protect traders and
manufacturers against unfair trading practices, a mystery survey was
conducted by the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) where selected
businesses were identified as meeting the stringent criteria set by the
CAA and recognised to be awarded. This was a concept of Minister of
Trade, Marketing Development, Co-operatives and Consumer Affairs,
Bandula Gunawardena.
