Sri Lanka Institute of Credit Management awards ceremony

The Sri Lanka Institute of Credit Management (SLICM) will hold its 14th awards ceremony on September 7 at Sasakawa Hall, Colombo with SLICM President and the Chairman of the Alliance Group of Companies Pratapkumar de Silva as the chief guest.

Fifty four students from the 2005 batch will receive Diploma Certificates and Associate Membership Certificates, 22 students will be recipients of the best student special awards.

The SLICM established in 1988 under the Companies Act is now incorporated under a Parliamentary Act. SLICM was initiated and encouraged by the following companies namely: The Finance Co.Ltd., Lanka Orix Leasing Co.Ltd., Alliance Finance Co.Ltd., L.B. Finance Co.Ltd., Mercantile Credit Ltd., and Central Finance Co.Ltd.

It is an Educational Institute to improve professional competence in the field of credit management and afford opportunities for acquiring professional qualifications.

The SLICM, the brainchild of Dr. Lalith Kotelawala was formed to train personnel working in banks, finance companies and other financial institutions in the art of managing credit and enhancing their knowledge and competencies when working in financial institutions.

Over 1048 students from 105 institutions had undergone training at the Institute.The diploma classes are held on Sundays and they are conducted by senior and competent lecturers with proven track record in their respective fields.

The Diploma Course in Credit Management conducted by SLICM cover ten very important subjects such as Credit Management, Marketing and Economics, Business Law,International Fina-nce and Banking, Accountancy and Finance, Management Principles, Business Communication and finally a Research Report on a credit related subject in enhancing students practical approach on credit management.

This diploma course in Credit Management is annually conducted by the Institute on every Sunday and lectures are conducted for about 12 months. Students have to face two Examinations, Module I (Intermediate Level) and Module II (Final Level).

The Institute of Credit Management, United Kingdom has recognized this Diploma Course and students with this Diploma are now entitled to A.I.C.M. (UK) as a professional qualification.
