Sports Ministry join hands with SLC for Olympic Torch Ceremony

SPORTS FESTIVAL: The Ministry of Sports and Public Recreation in a historic move will join hands with Sri Lanka Cricket to carry the 33rd National Sports Festival Olympic Torch from Colombo to Beliatta.

This year's National Sports Festival organised and conducted by the Ministry of Sports and Public Recreation will be worked off from September 15 to 17 at the D. A. Rajapaksa Stadium in Beliatta.

This was following a discussion between President Mahinda Rajapaksa and Jayantha Dharmadasa Chairman Interim Committee Sri Lanka Cricket at Temple Trees yesterday.

This will be the first time that the National Sports Festival Olympic Torch will be carried from Colombo to the venue ceremonially with more than 200 top sportsmen and sportswomen joining at different locations.

The main ceremony before the Olympic Torch is carried to Beliatta, will be held on September 14 at the Independence Square under the supervision of Namal Rajapaksa and Dilhan Basnayake from the 'Tharunyata Hetak' movement.

There will be special ceremonies to welcome the Olympic Torch bearers at Moratuwa, Kalutara, Benthara, Galle, Matara and Tangalle before it reaches the D. A. Rajapaksa Stadium on September 15 at 2.00 p.m.
