Stock libraries with books, Principals told

COLOMBO: The Education Ministry yesterday instructed Provincial Councils to direct Principals to buy books for school libraries for 2007, starting from September, the Literary Month during which all main bookshops will sell at discounted rates.

Provincial councils have been required to issue the directive before September 4, so that Colombo and suburban schools can make use of the Mega Book Fair organised by publishers at the BMICH to buy books at a cheaper prices.

The principals will be required to submit bills and the details of their purchase to the Zonal education offices before December 31.

The selection of books to their libraries should be made on the advice of the school library committee under guidelines issued by the Zonal director.
