Don’t let wildlife regulations hinder Adi Vasis’ duties

President tells officials:

COLOMBO: Giving heed to Adi Vasis’ grievances following a complaint that they have been obstructed by Wildlife officials from carrying out their traditional ritual of offering bees’ honey for the Esala Perahera Festival, President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday directed authorities to ensure that Wildlife Regulations will not hinder Adi Vasis from observing their tribal duties.

He also discussed problems facing the Rathugala Adi Vasi community at the Presidential Secretariat yesterday.

The Adi Vasi Leaders explained to the President issues connected to housing, drinking water and the necessity to develop water tanks and irrigation canals supplying water to their agricultural lands.

President Rajapaksa directed the officials to dig wells to address their drinking water problem under the Jathika Saviya programme and take immediate steps to renovate the water tanks.
