SAGT records impressive throughput

South Asia Gateway Terminals (SAGT) ended the year 2006 with an impressive throughput of 1,335,411 TEUS reflecting a 43% growth when compared with the 931,510 TEUS achieved in 2005.

This includes a-6% growth in domestic volume and a 72% growth in transshipment volume. Apart from the growth in volumes SAGT also increased the productivity levels by 30% in the year 2006 and have set our goals on further development. This great milestone was achieved primarily as a result of the hard work and commitment displayed by "Team SAGT".

The traffic in the ISC region has estimated a total average of 6 million TEUS of transshipment traffic within the year 2006.

The Port of Colombo contributed 2.3 million TEUS to this traffic, which amounted to a 39% against its market share of 29.5% in the year 2005.
