CRICKET: Sri Lanka's former wicket keeper batsman Romesh
Kaluwitharana is set to begin a new career and has joined Cricket
Victoria in an attempt to follow a level two coaching course.
The Asian Cricket Council Development Officer Rumesh Ratnayeke has
recommended Kaluwitharana for level two and the Sri Lankan has
approached it with an open mind.
Kaluwitharana, 38, was Sri Lanka's wicket-keeper batsman when they
won the World Cup and had played 49 Tests and 189 one day internationals
during a period from 1992 to 2004.
Renowned for the audacity of his shot-making, together with his
opening partner Sanath Jayasuriya, the pair revolutionised one-day
batting at the start of an innings. Since retirement he has coached
Colts Cricket Club in the Premier League championship while conducting a
career as an Insurance Executive. |
