Kenya fight back strongly to win

Kaushal (60) top scorer for Sri Lanka 'A':

CRICKET: Kenya edged out Sri Lanka 'A' by two wickets in the third match of the Triangular limited overs tournament match played at the Gymkhana Club grounds in Nairobi yesterday.

Kenya after dismissing Sri Lanka 'A' for 194 runs reached their target scoring 195 for 8 with five overs to spare. Opener Ouma gave Kenya a flying start with a solid half century and the innings was consolidated by Mishra (48) and Kamande (23).

Ouma combined with Mishra to steady the run chase after paceman Chanaka Welegedera had struck twice in successive deliveries to leave Kenya struggling at 14 for 2.

Both batsmen batted quite aggressively and Ouma turned on the heat in the 17th over when he smashed Dammika Prasad for four boundaries to propel Kenya comfortably ahead of the required rate.

Kenya were well placed at 101 for 2 at one stage but Sri Lanka 'A' came back into the game through some splendid bowling from Rangana Herath and Kaushal Lokuarachchi. As a result Kenya slumped to 150 for 6 before Thomas Odoyo found good support from Jimmy Kamande and the pair took Kenya closer towards their total.

Earlier Peter Ongondo captured five wickets for 30 runs as Sri Lanka A were all out for 194 in 48 overs. Ongondo produced a fine opening spell and grabbed the first three wickets and then came back to knock over the late order batsmen with Sri Lanka A failing to complete their allotted quota of 50 overs.

Wicket keeper batsman Kaushal Silva hit a top score of 60 and made sure that his team reached respectable total at the end. Silva and Kaushal Lokuarachchi put on 61 for the sixth wicket, before Kamande had Lokuarachchi trapped leg-before.
