Singles semi finalists found

TENNIS: Top seed Rajeev Rajapakse, Sanka Atukorale, D. Wijesuriya and Amrith Rupasinghe cruised into the men's singles semi finals of the 92nd Sri Lanka National Tennis Championships played at the National Tennis Association Courts, Green Path, Colombo, yesterday.

Bottom seed Nilupul Goonasekara will meet Amritha Muttiah while top seed Jithmie Jayawickrame will take on the winner of T.S. Ekanayake and S. Weerasekara in the women's singles semi finals.

Lasantha de Silva stunned bottom seed Iqbal Majeed (6/0, 6/1) while top seed K. Sudarshana beat R. Kuruppu convincingly (6/0, 6/1) to secure their places in the men's over 35 singles final.

The former Sri Lanka national player and the non playing captain of the recently concluded Davis Cup, seeded number eight Rohan de Silva suffered a shock defeat at the hands of Rukmal Cooray (6/4, 7/6) on day three.

Promising youngster Rukmal Cooray who showed his prowess in the Junior Nationals concluded last week where he created three major upsets by toppling three seeded players including top seed Gayanga Weerasekara in the boy's under 18 event. In an earlier match Amrith Rupasinghe created a big upset when he crushed the seeded number two Renouk Wijemanne (6/2, 6/4).
