SLSCA to discuss on disciplinary action
CRICKET: Two promising Sri Lanka under 19 cricketers who were sacked
from the present squad due to disciplinary reasons are likely to get
away with a minor punishment after Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) handed the
case to their respective school authorities.
The Chief Executive Officer of SLC Duleep Mendis said that they will
not take any further action against the two players except for them
being not selected for the second three day fixture against the touring
Indian under 19 team which is now in progress at the Asgiriya Stadium in
Kandy.
Mendis noted that it is now upto the heads of the two schools to take
further action against these two players.
Meanwhile a spokesman for the Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association
said that they would take up this matter at the next Executive Committee
meeting and decide what kind of punishment they could hand over on the
two players.
The Sri Lanka under 19 team is currently going through a bad season
and were eliminated from the recent Tri Nation limited overs tournament
worked off in Colombo. They were beaten twice by their arch rivals India
and also suffered a shock defeat at the hands of the Bangladesh team.
The situation became worse when they crashed to a dismal 95 in their
second innings and suffered a massive 182 runs defeat against the Indian
under 19 team in the first three day match played at the Colts Cricket
Club ground in Havelock Park. C.D.
