Dilantha teams up with Singaporeans

MOTOR RACING: Sri Lanka’s race driver Dilantha Malagamuwa had a very
successful racing season last season in Malaysia winning the Malaysian
Super Car Series. And this year’s achievements so far has brought him
good results when he was selected to join the Team Porsche Club
Singapore Racing.
His first assignment with this team will be to drive the latest 997
RSR Porsche for the endurance race on the Sepang F1 Circuit in Malaysia
on August 24 and 25 which is a 12 hour Merdeka race.
He is expected to team up with Mok Weng Sun and Ringo Chong for this
first event for which they will use Porsche 997 GT RSR, 485Bhp, 3.8
litre. The Singaporean team is sponsored by Affinity Equity Partners &
Michelin and many other co-sponsors who have already dumped a sum
amounting to over 1m Euros.
This event feature many ex-Formula drivers from the European region
and expected to be a very competitive one.
The following officials are in charge of the Singaporean team
Chief-of-Operations: Arjunan Kulasegaram, Chief Engineer: Andy Tan, Race
Engineer: Andrea Mercatelli According to Arjunan Chief of Operations the
team members welcomed the inclusion of Sri Lanka’s greatest racing
driver with delight.
With his extensive experience in endurance racing, we have no doubt
that Dilantha will help us achieve our ultimate goal of winning the
Merdeka Milennium Endurance race this August.
Arjunan Kulasegaram speaking to a news paper has said that Dilantha
isa truly a great sporting ambassador for Sri Lanka and embodies all the
qualities to make Sri Lankans loved by the world over”
Dilantha too said that as a Sri Lanka he is happy to be a part of a
foreign team to compete at international level. These countries treat
the talented sportsmen at the highest level.
That is the reason why they wanted me to join their team. But in Sri
Lanka sporting personalities of the same calibre are not given due
recognition as in other countries says Dilantha. |
