India u-19 pile-up 491

CRICKET: India sent Sri Lanka on a leather hunt amassing 491 for 3 declared on the first day of their under-19 second Test which began at the Asgiriya Stadium in Kandy, yesterday.

Indian Under-19 skipper Tanmay Srivastava winning the toss did not hesitate to take shriek on a grassless track. The Sri Lankan bowlers were made to toil hard on a wicket which appeared to favour the batsman opener Shrevats Goswami (29) and Abhinav Mukund put on 54 before the favour was bowled by medium pacer Ishan Jayaratne.

Sri Lanka had to wait till after tea for their next was as Abhinav Mukund (205) and Tanmay Srivastava (117) put on 263 runs for the second cricket before the latter was trapped in front for 117 by off spinner Ashan Udyanga.

This pair had complete control of the bowling which they sprayed to all parts of the ground. Left-hander Srivastava reached his 50 in 63 balls and 100 in 143 balls and in all batted for 152 balls hitting 13 fours.

Opener Abhinav Mukund had an useful partner in Viraj Kohil as this pair put on 100 run for the third wicket before Mukund was run out for 205, perhaps the only way they could have got him out in his chanceless knock. He reached his 50 in 94 balls, 100 in 161 balls and 200 in 239 balls. He faced 242 balls and hit 24 fours and 1 six.

But followed was brake hitting as Viraj Kohil and Surash Tiwaryi clubbed a tired Sri Lankan attack to put on an unbroken stand of 74 for the fourth wicket. Viraj Kohil reached his fifty in just 32 balls and was unbeaten on 94 when the closure was applied.

If not for the declaration, Viraj Kohil would have made one of the fastest centuries at this venue. This pair hoisted their fifty partnership in just 15 minutes and 18 balls. Two bowlers from Sri Lanka conceded over 100 runs on a unhelpful wicket.

At close Sri Lanka had replied 11 for no loss. But they have a difficult task ahead today if they are to save the game.
