LTTE infiltrators driven back

WELI OYA: A group of LTTE cadres attempting to infiltrate a village
in Ranabapura, Weli-Oya was beaten back by Security Forces last morning.
A Home Guard was killed in the incident, the Media Centre for the
National Security said.
“An attack planned by the LTTE on the Ranabapura area in Weli-Oya was
averted by the Security Forces who forced the Tigers to flee from the
area” a spokesman for the MCNS said.
“At the time of the attack three Home Guards who were on duty
observed the movement of a group of LTTE terrorists and alerted the
Security Forces who rushed to the scene, he added.
Meanwhile, two LTTE cadres were killed when a Navy foot patrol opened
fire on a group of fleeing tiger cadres in Panakualam on Tuesday night.
A haul of arms and ammunition too were recovered.
According to a spokesman for the MCNS the Navy foot patrol manning
defences in Panakulam launched small arms fire at a group of fleeing
terrorists killing two. In a subsequent search operation troops
recovered two bodies of LTTE cadres, a 40mm grenade launcher, a nine
40mm grenade launcher bomber, a T56 assault rifle and two I-
Communication sets.
In a separate incident, acting on a tip-off by a civilian the
Security Forces recovered a cache of weapons hidden in a shrub jungle on
Tuesday evening in Sambaltivu, Trincomalee.
The arms cache included a 40mm grenade launcher, 40 of 40mm grenade
launcher bomb, two hand grenades, three T56 magazines, 90 of 7.62x3mm
ammunition, two claymore mines, a 40mm grenade launcher pack and a belt
order.
