Incentives proposed for N-E public servants

COLOMBO:President Mahinda Rajapaksa said on Tuesday that the next Security Council meeting would focus on providing a common security programme for Government servants in the North and East.

He said it was imperative that the Government provides security for public servants in the two provinces in the face of terrorist threats. The Government will also provide incentives for these public servants.

The President expressed these ideas during a meeting with key officials of the Sri Lanka Administrative Service.

He said the extensions of service granted to officers aged over 60 deprived promotions to younger public servants. In the future, the Cabinet will have to approve such recruitment and extensions.
