Sri Lanka-Thailand Society Essay competition
COLOMBO: The Sri Lanka-Thailand Society in association with the Royal
Thai Embassy will hold an essay competition in the English medium to
mark the 80th birthday anniversary of The King of Thailand and the 10th
anniversary of the Sri Lanka-Thailand Society.
The essay competition on the theme “Cultural Heritage of Sri Lanka
and Thailand”, will be held among schoolchildren under two age groups -
10 to 15 years and 15 to 20 years - with a view to promote and enhance
wider knowledge and understanding in regard to Sri Lanka - Thailand
relations among the students, the younger generation of the country.
The length of the essay should not be less than 1,200 and not more
than 1,500 words. The deadline for forwarding the essays is August 24,
2007. Entries should be forwarded by registered post through the heads
of schools, who need to certify the age and name of the writer student,
to the following address:
Secretary, Sri Lanka - Thailand Society, P7, Government Flats,
Bambalapitiya, Colombo 04.
The students coming first, second and third in each group will
receive cash prizes of Rs. 25,000, Rs. 15,000 and Rs. 10,000 each and
trophies certificates. The schools that the two winners come from will
receive trophies. 12 others from each age group will receive merit
certificates.
Awards will be announced and winners will be notified by the end of
August 2007. The award presentation ceremony will be held on 14th
September 2007 at the “Thai Residence”, No. 10, Sir Ernest de Silva
Mawatha, Colombo 7 commencing 9.30 a.m.
The essay competition has been approved by the Education Ministry.
