Indictment served on accused in Abdeen murder case

COLOMBO: The Colombo High Court yesterday served indictment on
three persons in connection with the murder of film producer Jeinul
Abdeen who produced Bhawa Duka and Bhawa Karma and fixed the case to be
heard on day to day basis.
Indictment were served before the Colombo High Court Judge Deepali
Wijesundara to V. A. D. Clifford Jagath Perera, Roveena Pathina Abdeen
and K. V. Siriwardana alias Podi Jagath alias Jagath and they pleaded
not guilty.
The film producer was murdered on September 17, 1993 at Wellawatta.
They were charged with conspiring between June 15 and September 17, 1993
to commit the murder of Jeinul Abdeen. Siriwardana was charged with
committing the murder of Abdeen on September 17, 1993 at Wellawatta.
The productions included a (380) Special Revolver. A Dean of Moratuwa
University Professor J.A.K.S. Jayasinghe, film Director Darmasiri
Bandaranayake and Judicial Medical Officer S. M. Kolambage were among 29
in the witness’ list.
Senior State Counsel Mohan Seneviratne and State Counsel Sanjeewa
Dissanayake appeared for the prosecution. |
