Hutch ties-up with Zte Corporation as long-term vendor

PARTNERSHIP: Hutchison Telecommunication Lanka has chosen Zte Corporation as their long-term vendor on their expansion of the islandwide network.

Zte Corporation provides infrastructure solutions to many telecommunication companies.

They will cover this project exclusively, Chief Executive Officer, Zte Corporation, Huang Shouqiang said.

“This project will reach the four million subscriber base of the Hutchison Telecommunication Lanka. It will be covered in two to three years, including the Northern and Eastern provinces,” Huang said.

Hutch Deputy CEO Lasantha Perera said: “We have been working with only one vendor from the inception of our services to Sri Lanka to now. We are much satisfied with working with Zte and the new contract we have signed will cover 80 per cent of the population by 2009.

“On this project with Hutch, Zte Corporation has completed Phase one, two and three and the groundwork has already commenced for another three phases of four, five and six. I ensure that the coverage will be expanded through this almost 200 per cent.

Through this project we will be providing the latest technologies” Account Manager for Hutch, Zte Corporation, Garry Shou said.

Zte operates a branch in Sri Lanka from 2003. Zte is already working with almost every telecommunications company on their new technical entries to the industry and its expansions.

Specifically, we provided the entire infrastructure solutions to Sri Lanka Telecom City Link CDMA project. Apart from this we work with Tigo, Lanka Bell and Dialog, Huang said.

Over 120 locals are employed in this branch. We have trained 200 local workers. We sent them to China and India for a month or two on technical training. We will be continuously sending people on technical training in future as well, he said.
