Roads closed for Nagenahira Navodaya national ceremony

COLOMBO: The following roads will be closed for traffic today and tomorrow from 6.30 a.m. to noon on account of the Eastern Reawakening (Nagenahira Navodaya) national ceremony to be held at Independence Square, Colombo tomorrow and its rehearsal to be held today, the Colombo Traffic Police said yesterday.

The roads and the points of closure are Independence Avenue from Cinnamon Gardens roundabout, Maitland Place from Gregory’s Road, Maitland Crescent junction, Public Administration junction and Bauddhaloka Mawatha-Maitland Place junction and Foundation Institute Road from Stanley Wijesundere Mawatha-Foundation Institute road junction.

The release said the following roads will also be closed temporarily from time to time between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. and between 10 a.m. and 11.30 a.m. to facilitate VIP motorcades.

Galle Road from Kollupitiya to Fort, Parliament Road, from Kollupitiya junction along Dharmapala Mawatha, Ananda Coomaraswamy Mawatha, Horton Place, Castle Street upto Polduwa roundabout, Thurstan Road, Flower Road, Reid Avenue, Rajakeeya Mawatha, Stanley Wijesundere Mawatha, Gilbert Crescent.Motorists on these routes are requested to use alternative routes during this period to avoid inconvenience.

Employees attached to offices along these roads are requested to report to work before 8 a.m. on this day to avoid inconvenience.
