Car driver jailed for killing pedestrian

COLOMBO: A car driver who pleaded guilty to accidentally killing a pedestrian was sentenced to one year’s imprisonment by Colombo High Court Judge Deepali Wijesundara. The Court convicted Arulappan Antony Michael, 38, and suspended the sentence to five years.

According to the indictment, Michael had driven his vehicle recklessly under the influence of liquor and killed Somasiri Gunasinghe on February 11, 2005 at D.R. Wijewardana Mawatha, Maradana.
