Department of Wildlife Conservation assures action
This refers to the news item appeared in the Daily News on June 27,
under ‘People’s Voice: To whom It May Concern’ column written by animal
lovers.
Permission has not been granted for capturing of animals for the
purposes of commercial activities.
However, DWC is not responsible for domestic animals such as any
domestic fowl reared by man as poultry. (Section 11- Fauna and Flora
Protection Ordinance).
The DWC is taking immediate action against the Bellattara illegal
activities.

CEA responds to query on noise pollution
This has reference to the news item published in the ‘people’s voice’
column in the Daily News dated June 20 by the disheartened expatriate in
Pamankada.
Maximum permissible noise levels from industrial activities are given
in the noise control regulations in the gazette extraordinary number
924/12 dated May 23, 1996 under the National Environmental act.
The police have powers to take action against noise pollution under
the nuisance ordinance. Noise regulations for community activities have
already been finalised and are expected to be gazetted soon.
The Central Environmental Authority (CEA) has delegated the powers
for granting approval for small-scale industrial activities (3-wheel
garages etc.)under the National Environmental Act. |
