Retired SC Judge to inquire into allegations against CMC

COLOMBO: A one man committee led by retired Supreme Court Judge
Justice Chandradasa Nanayakkara has been appointed by the Western
Provincial Council Chief Minister Reginald Cooray yesterday to inquire
the allegations made by the Chief Minister against the Colombo Municipal
Council(CMC).
The Chief Minister revealed this at the special media conference held
at the Chief Minister’s Office yesterday.
Cooray also said that he was not satisfied with the explanation given
by CMC Mayor Mohamed Imitiyas to the charge sheet tendered by him
according to powers vested in him under Clause 2 No. 04 of the 1991
Provincial Council Charter.
A decision will be taken after the submission of the said report of
the inquiring committee followed by an indepth study in to it, the Chief
Minister said.
A charge sheet of eight offences against the Panadura Municipal
Council Chairman was also submitted yesterday.
