50 injured in bus mishap

NIKAWERATIYA: Nearly fifty passengers were injured when a Kurunegala bound private bus travelling from Puttalam plunged into a precipice at Aloka junction, Nikaweratiya around 7.20am yesterday. The bus had fallen into the precipice when the driver lost control of the wheel while trying to overtake another bus.

When the accident took place, nearly 75 passengers were in the bus.

Of them 50 have sustained minor injuries. Thirty injured passengers have been admitted to Nikaweratiya hospital.

Most of the injured passengers were home bound office workers Following the mishap the driver of the bus had fled the scene.

Nikaweratiya Police are conducting investigations.
