Country has lost a true patriot, says President

Death of Vidya Jothi Prof V.K. Samaranayake:

COLOMBO: President Mahinda Rajapaksa in a message of condolence yesterday, said it was with shock and grief that he learnt of the passing away of Vidya Jothi Professor V.K. Samaranayake at Stockholm, Sweden.

“It was in keeping with his nature that his final journey abroad was concerned with his abiding interest in Information Technology, and how it could help Sri Lanka,” the President said.

President Rajapaksa’s message: “A distinguished academic, recognised for excellence both in Sri Lanka and abroad, he will be best remembered for the pioneering contributions made to the teaching, use and advance of Information Technology in our country.
