Let us keep it simple, says Public Administration Minister
COLOMBO: Public Administration and Home Affairs Minister Karu
Jayasuriya yesterday directed all officials under his Ministry to desist
from spending money unnecessarily for public functions organised by his
ministry.
“Let us keep it simple and dignified without pandals, garlands and
musical shows with blaring noise,” the Minister appealed.
Hoisting the National Flag and singing the National Anthem is
sufficient at public functions, he said.
“Let us use the money we spend for ‘gala functions’ for something
that is beneficial to the public. All public functions should be simple
and manifest national pride,” Jayasuriya said.
He also underlined the need for the meeting agenda’s to be kept as
brief as possible leaving room for more productive work.
“Let us initiate a new culture in public service” he said. The
Minister said unless it is a function relating to a school and students
come on their own accord, schoolchildren should not be used for public
functions during weekdays affecting their studies. |
