Vithanage suspended
RUGBY: The Disciplinary Committee of the Sri Lanka Rugby Football
Union which met yesterday at the Headquarters of the Rugby Union
suspended Sri Lanka Sevens Captain Chamara Vithanage from all rugby
activities till the inquiry against him is concluded.
The Disciplinary Committee comprising SSP T. M. N. Hamid (Chairman),
Brigadier Jupana Jayawardena and Brigadier Sallay took this decision
after the two touch judges gave evidence at the inquiry. Vithanage was
not present and submitted a medical certificate. They decided to resume
the inquiry on June 13.
The suspension means Vithanage will not be able to play, coach or
serve as manager of any rugby team. Vithanage is alleged to have
assaulted referee Pradeep Fernando after the Trinity-Kingswood rugby
match played at Pallekelle on Saturday. |
