KOTTE: Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayake yesterday told
Parliament that the Government has not taken any action that will damage
the longstanding friendly relationship between Sri Lanka and India.
The Prime Minister said the Government has not taken any measure
whatsoever to weaken the friendly relationships with India and other
neighbouring countries.
Wickremanayake was responding to a complaint by UNP MP Lakshman
Seneviratne during the Emergency debate that the Government has given up
its relations with neighbouring country, India.
Urban Development and Sacred City Development Minister Dinesh
Gunawardene who interrupted the MP’s speech said: “On behalf of the
Government, I would like to say that the statement made by the MP is
completely false.”
The Prime Minister said UNP MP Lakshman Seneviratne made a serious
allegation against the Government.
“India is our very friendly country. India is a country which has
given us everything what we asked. Therefore, the Government strongly
maintains the close relationship between the two countries. We can never
forget the assistance given to us by India.”
Wickremanayake said the Government has not taken any steps to weaken
the relationship with India or any other neighbouring country. |
