Panadura in house cricket

CRICKET: The third annual In-House Cricket Tournament organized by the Panadura Cricket Club and the Panadura Cricket Coaching School will be conducted at the Panadura Esplanade on June 9 - 10.

In addition to the four age groups of under 11, under 13, under 15 and under 17 arrangements are been made to have a mini Soft Ball Cricket Match for under 9 boys too, to expose the beginners to the game.

Twenty five over matches will be played in four age groups while the Soft ball match will be of 10 over duration.

Good performers in all five age groups will be presented with Trophies for the Best Batsman, Best Bowler, Best Fielder and the Man of the Match.

The youngsters attached to the Panadura Cricket Coaching School have been participating in many tournaments in the recent past and have faired well in many of the tournaments.

Two teams participated in the Annual Nelson Mendis Tournament in December 2006 and they also participated in tournaments organized by Chatura Coaching School and few others.

The in-house tournament will provide an opportunity to unearth hidden talents of over 100 youngsters who will be taking part.

The chief guest this year will be Lion Shirley Perera the District Governor of Lions International District 306 A 1.

Vijith Priyantha Silva and Chairman of Panadura Urban Council, a keen supporter of Cricket in Panadura and two well-known cricketers produced by Panadura, now equally well-known in the field of Industry, namely Anurath Abeyratne and Tissa Illeperuma are the guests of honour.
