President orders speedy repair of Padaviya-Sripura Road

COLOMBO: President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday ordered the speedy
reconstruction of the Padaviya-Sripura main road in order to propogate
development in the Welioya villages.
In a meeting with relevant officials in the area at Temple Trees
yesterday, President Rajapaksa orderd the Divisional Secretary to
prepare a report pertaining to problems facing civil administration in
order to find viable solutions to the matters.
The strategically located Welioya which borders four districts, has
been under constant threat by terrorists for a long time. As such the
President assured the area representatives that the Government would
take all steps to ensure security of the people in the area.
The President responded positively as his attention was drawn to the
Kivul Oya irrigation project by the Peoples’ representatives in the area
where they pointed out that the implementation of the project would
enable the cultivation of 6000 hectares of paddy.
Steps were also taken to address the shortage of teachers and doctors
in the area with immediate effect. The President ordered the officials
to handover the construction of the Padaviya-Sripura road to the Civil
Defence Force.
The meeting was attended by Ven.Polonnaruwe Thilakalankara Thera of
Kiriibbanwewa, Ven.Ranawana Damminda Thera of Ethawetunuwewa, NCP Chief
Minister Berty Premalal Dissanayake and Ministers Tissa Karaliyadda,
S.M.Chandrasena, Duminda Dissanayake along with the Secretary to the
President Lalith Weeratunge, Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa,
Treasury Secretary Dr.P.B.Jayasundera, General. Sarath Weerasekera along
with civil administrators and Peoples’ Representatives in the area.
