VAT on chick-pea, green gram, tinned fish down

COLOMBO: The Value Added Tax (VAT) on imported gram (chick-pea), green gram and tinned fish (salmon) has been reduced from 15 to five per cent with immediate effect on a Presidential directive as a measure to bring down prices in the local market, the Finance and Planning Ministry said in a release yesterday.
