Cop killed in Tiger attack

VAVUNIYA: A police constable was killed when a group of LTTE cadres fired small arms at a police point in Salambakulam, Vavuniya last morning, police media spokesman Senior DIG Jayantha Wickramaratne said.

According to DIG Wickramaratne, the police constable was killed when the LTTE attacked with small arms at the police point in Sector-2 in Salambakulam, along the Vavuniya-Mannar Road around 7.20 a.m. yesterday.

“Police personnel on duty retaliated the attack forcing the Tiger cadres to flee from the area,” he added. Vavuniya police are investigating.

Meanwhile, an LTTE cadre was shot dead by Security Forces when he attempted to infiltrate the Nagarkovil Forward Defence Line on Wednesday around 9.30 a.m.
