Asgiriya prelate receives Aggamaha Panditha title today
KANDY: The Ven. Udugama Sri Buddharakhita Mahanayaka Thera of
the Asgiriya chapter whose 78th birth anniversary falls today will
receive the Agga Maha Pandihta title conferred by the Myanmar Government
at a ceremony at the Pallekelle International Buddhist Centre at 2 p.m.
today.
The Ven. Mahanayaka will be conducted to the Pallekelle Buddhist
Centre in a colourful motorcade starting off from the Sri Dalada
Maligawa premises at 1.30 p.m. He will be received near the Pallekelle
Pandal and conducted in procession to the Buddhist Centre auditorium.
The Myanmar Ambassador is due to confer the Agga Maha Panditha title
on the Mahanayaka Thera at the ceremony. Maha Sangha of the three
Nikayas, Religious Affairs Minister Pandu Bandaranayake, Central
Province Governor Tikiri Kobbekaduwa, Chief Minister Sarath Ekanayake,
Diyawadana Nilame Pradeep Nilanga Dela Bandara and Buddhist Affairs
Commissioner H.W.D. Sunil will also be present on the occasion. |
