Imagination

Total darkness - what's it all about
The mind and heart engulfed in wild despair
All extinguished!
No ray of hope - no will to live!
Whence shall the light come from?
The inner conscience probes ....
From whence? Except from the mind and heart
Begone darkness - welcome light
The ray of hope flickers and overshadows the darkness
Darkness evaporates - light radiates and permeates
the whole self!
Life's shadow plays tricks with the inner conscience
Of the being who is rendered immobile with utter despair
But the mind triumphs over matter
And again life begins to tick with ecstasy and eternal hope!

Rienzie I. Perera

The sea notes

The sea has
many notes in store
for those who
want to listen

Some symphonies
of waves
breaking on the rocks
some war songs
with waves
marching one after another
some love songs
like the ripples
on the shallow shores
some mystery tunes
with waves
swirling around
the coconut trees
some lullabies
like the receding
low tide waves

yes the sea has
many notes in store
for those who want to forget
many other notes in life
like...

the currency notes
meeting notes
study notes...et cetera...
and listen
for these wonderful
notes of the sea

I cried... not because of you!

I saw you,
holding your hands
to thousands passers-by,
I looked at you,
I looked into myself
and I cried

I cried, not because you had no eyes
but because I had them
unused to give light to many like you!

I saw you without your hands
and I looked at my hands
and I cried!

I cried not because of you
but because I had not used my hands
to help many like you

I got into the train with no help
but you could not
and you needed help
I looked at you and I cried
I cried not because you had no legs
but because I failed
to give the better of myself
to uplift many like you

I saw your lips moving
trying hard to form words
and speak your mind out
but words did not come out of your lips
and I cried bitterly
not because you could not tell your tale
but because I failed miserably
to speak out for you

Let me be forgiven
brother blind, dumb
and handicapped
for I am part of the world
talk a lot about the disabled
not for your benefit
but for our own benefit
and glory.

A Puppy's Prayer

My master is a soldier,
And he has marched to war,
I know I'll never see him,
He'll never shake my paw.

When I, stray, out on the street,
He found me sick and lame,
And took me to his abode,
And gave me health again.

Though his return I await,
My instinct tells me that,
We shall never ever meet,
And that I know as fact.

In last night's fierce battle,
I know my master fell,
For canine senses never lie,
His scent was in the knell.

If my master's heaven is a place,
Where puppies too can go,
I'll climb those steep and narrow steps,
To be with him once more.

Come spring

Come spring;
Clothe the trees with
Emerald apparels and
Adorn them with
Sweet blossoms of
Bright hues.

Bend the trees with
Clusters of fruits
Of colours diverse.
House among their boughs,
Happy nature's minstrels,
And bid them sing sweetly
Melodious notes and
Fill the empty skies
With their echoing sounds.

Swell the streams with
Water as clear as glass,
And let them glide
Through rocks and woods and vales.
Give the grasslands a carpet
Of shining green grass
And let the happy cows
With their playful calves
Fill their bellies
To their heart's content.
Make the azure sky
Shine with the light
Of the golden sun.

Cool the calm night
With a cold soft breeze,
And sprinkle the skies
With tiny twinkling stars.
Dispel dark clouds of sorrow,
And fill all hearts
With happiness endless.

I have a poem

I don't have enough words
But, I have a poem in my heart to tell passersby

I don't have a good voice
I cant memorise melodies
But I have a song to sing
to my people

I don't know how to write
But I love to tell a story
For all human beings
That is my sorrowful life

How can I do this
When can I do this
Street is my home
Sky is my roof
Water is my food
Dreams are my earnings

Boatman

Boatman, my boatman, the waters run fast,
The current is fierce, how long will this last?
You've steered me through childhood, guided my life,
Through waters of peace and high swells of strife..

We skimmed and we turned and we skirted the shore
And rocked in the rainstorms and mastered the flow,
Why now this swamping? We falter midstream,
The water is rising and whipped like white cream

Lost you the rudder? This life's barque is holed,
Boatman, my boatman, the river's unrolled;
Where have you gone to, I see you nowhere,
Pity my trembling, my fear and despair..

The seconds tick loudly - where lies the shore?
Boatman, my boatman, I see you nowhere,

Anniversary

Anniversaries are for mindful people
Who preserve their past and value holding
Who collect flowers to be knitted
To a garland of pride of mindful ways
Who live for a mission and work with vision
And taking stocks of life and enhancing values.

Life is a inter-knitted and a blend of time
There is no today if not for a yesterday
No future of tomorrow had there been no today
Every stone matters in buildings our ways
Like the Great Wall of China
One single stone goes a long way

In the mission of our life as partners meet
The game of life is there after we begin
Angels from heaven bring warmth beneath
A blend of sour and sweet and dreams begin
She becomes a 'Mother' and he a 'Father'

The drop of love sprung thirty nine years ago
Never dried for moment and flow all the way
I recall the first moment and the words whispered
The pledge of marriage and the coming of the kids
And today we live in an ocean of love...

Now we have reached the zenith of our life
Stories of success flow at our sight
If anyone ask me the cause of our success?
I am sure to melt and with tears of joy
I shall point at you my beloved wife.

Above the zenith is the deep blue sky
And over the sky may be where angels fly?
And may be it is where our destination lie
Holding hands we are sure to fly
To that very destination where we never die.

Complete

If love is a dew drop,
You bring me the rain;
Bathe me in that shower
And ease my pain.

If trust is a grain of sand,
You bring me the earth;
And crown me on top
And show me my worth.

If life is a spark,
You set fire to my sphere;
You hold me to safety;
I have no fear.

If happiness is a breath,
You breathe wind into my life;
I'll claim only what's mine
And leave the rest without a strife.
