Kannangara MV clinch schools under 20 Rugby Sevens Title

RUGBY: C. W. W. Kannangara Maha Vidyalaya carried away the Singer Sri
Lanka Trophy when they beat D.S. Senanayake M.V. Colombo by 7 points (a
Goal) to nil, at the finals of the Annual Division II Seven-A-Side under
20 Rugby tournament played at the Urban Council grounds, Bandarawela on
Sunday.
Twenty-four teams participated at this Two Day tournament organised
by the Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Association with the assistance of the
Uva Schools Rugby Association. T. Denzil Darling was responsible in
organising this tournament where the teams played on a league basis
under eight groups.
Schools from Uva, namely St. Joseph's College, Bandarawela Central
College, S. Thomas' College Bandarawela and Dharmapala M.V. did
creditably well to reach the quarter finals in the Bowl and Plate
tournaments.
However Bandaranayake M.V. Gampaka trounced S. Thomas College by 46
points to nil at the Bowl finals. Katugastota Rahula beat Sri Sumangala
M.V. Kandy by 20-12 to clinch the Plate Trophy.
Bandarawela S.S.P.Edison Gunathilaka declared open the tournament on
Saturday while Commanding Officer of the Sri Lanka Military Academy Lt.
Col. Aruna Wanniarachchi, was the chief guest on the day of the finals
and distributed the awards. Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Association
President Hemantha Premathilake, Vice President G.J. Amarajeewa and
Singer Sri Lanka Ltd.
Marketing Officer K.D.S. Kanishka also graced the occasion.
