Children's homes to get qualitative service

COLOMBO: Probation and Child Care Department has come out with a programme to provide qualitative service to the Children's Homes coming under State and make them more vibrant and useful institutions to those children living in them.

A discussion in this regard was held by the Probation and Child Care Department Commissioner S. Abeygunawardena with the heads of the Children's Home.

"There had been various and divergent views about the running of these houses in the recent past. Taking all these views we have decided to initiate a programme from next year to raise the standard of the houses run by the Department. We have about 20 State houses.

"Our aim is to increase allowances, ensure safety of the children and give a proper training to those officers who run these houses", a media release issued by the Government Information Department said, quoting the Commissioner.
