Medical team to probe suspected viral fever

COLOMBO: The Health Ministry yesterday dispatched medical experts to Ampara to investigate reports of a suspected viral fever said to be spreading in the District.

The Health Ministry Epidemiological Unit had taken steps to send the medical experts to Ampara to conduct a formal inquiry on this suspected viral fever.

The team of medical experts headed by Senior Consultant of the Epidemiological Unit Dr. Ananda Amarasinghe will conduct a close study on the trend of the suspected viral fever.

According to Director of Epidemiology Dr. Nihal Abeysinghe, the team of medical experts will obtain comprehensive data on this suspected viral fever. After analyzing the data if the viral fever is confirmed, steps will be taken to prevent the spread of the fever.

Director of the Ampara hospital said only two viral fever infected patients were undergoing treatment at the Ampara hospital. It has also been reported that 50 viral fever affected patients are receiving treatment at the Kalmunai hospital.

Following a study by epidemiology experts, it will be determined if any viral fever is spreading in the Ampara district and prompt steps taken to arrest it, Dr. Abeysinghe said.
