Indo-Lanka negotiations on Vanaspathi issue

The Lankan government is working with the Indian government on ways to administer the quota and duty with regard to recommencing the hydrogenated vegetable oil (Vanaspathi ghee) exports to India. The export of Vanaspathi from Sri Lanka to India was halted with effect from June 4 this year.

Indian Qurantine procedures hampering local fruit exports

Local fruit and vegetable exporters face difficulties in entering the Indian market due to the quarantine system there. President of the Sri Lanka Fruit and Vegetable Producers, Processors and Exporters' Association Sarath de Silva told Daily News there is a good demand for local fruits such as pineapple, Rambuttan and Mangooseteen in the Indian market. But there is a barrier due to the quarantine system in India, for local exports.
