Dilantha placed second again in Malaysian Super Car C'ship

MOTOR RACING: Dilantha Malagamuwa the only Sri Lankan racing driver competing in the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia and the Malaysian Super Car Championship participating at the second round of the Malaysian Super Car race was placed second last Sunday behind Chong Fu Soong.

Dilantha who occupied the pole position in the first race was in front could not control his vehicle as it was conducted under heavy rains and skidded off the track.

On return to the track he was behind all drivers and had to use all his experience the maximum from of his vehicle to reach rront runners. Hedid this in style and was always in touch with the leaders at all times making a superlative drive. On many accasions he went ahead of the winner but had push back at open stretches as his engine lacked power to keep pace of the winners.

Though he won on straights it was Dilantha who dominated in the corners to thrill the large number of motor racing fans in Malaysia.

Peter Hills the winner of the first stage of the Malaysian Super Car Championship was placed third behin Dilantha.

Chong Fu Seong was behind the wheel of a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII (a four Wheel Drive) which had a powerful engine which the others did not have.

The second race for the day Dilantha positioned at grid No. 2. At the start Chong Fu Seong with his Mitxubishi Evo VIII blocked Dilantha giving room for Peter Hills second runner up in the first race the opportunity to make head way.

Dilantha though handicapped with kept on chasing after Hills but failed to go past him as the vehicle had more power to go at high speed specially on the straights. Dilantha's engine could not give the necessary power to for him to beat Hills and had to be satisfied with the secondn slot to collect 30 points fromm both events.

In the overall standings after the completion of two rounds Dilantha with 60 points is placed at No. 2 behind Peter Hills who has an aggregate of 72 points. The Championships will come to a close after the completion of four more rounds.

Dilantha is billed to compete in the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia round II on June 11 in Beijing Race Circuit.
