Singer - MCA Premier League semi-finalists found
CRICKET: HNB, Sampath Bank, Unichela and E-Wis qualified for
the semi-finals of the "Singer MCA" Premier League knock-out tournament
2006.
On Saturday, the three quarter finals between HNB Vs. Nawaloka Group
at NCC; E-Wis Vs. Seylan Bank at Bloomfield and Unichela Vs. John Keells
at Colts were washed out.
On Sunday, in the fourth quarter final at NCC ground, a swashbuckling
117 runs from Thilina Kandamby gave Sampath Bank a crushing 172-run won
over John Keells.
On Saturday First quarter-final at NCC ground No-Result between HNB
and Nawaloka. HNB were 137 for 2 in 24.3 overs when the rains came down
around noon and no further play was possible. HNB being the League Table
leaders now qualify for the semi-finals.
Second quarter final at Bloomfield ground - No-result between E-Wis
and Seylan Bank. Seylan Bank scored 37 for no loss in 5.1 overs before
rain ended the days play.
E-Wis qualified for the Semi-Final by their virtue of holding the
higher position in the league table over Seylan Bank. E-Wis finished
fourth and Seylan finished fifth in the League Table standings. Third
quarter final at Colts ground, No-result between Unichela and John
Keells. John Keells were 87 for 6 in 27.4 overs when rain halted play
for the day.
Unichela qualified for the Semi-final by their virtue of holding the
higher position in the league table over John Keells. Unichela finished
third and John Keells sixth in the League Table Standings. On Sunday
fourth quarter final at NCC ground: It was a sad ending for East West
Marketing, the 2005 league winners and Knock-out Runners-up went down
tamely by 100 runs to Sampath Bank.
Sampath Bank - 280 for 6 in 50-overs - (Dilruwan Perera 51, Thilina
Kandamby 117, Jeevan Mendis 56, Kaushalya Lokuarachchi 2/44, Lanka de
Silva 2/45)
East West Marketing (given a revised target of 208 runs to win in 29
overs, 108 all out in 28 overs. - (Rashan Peiris 25, Charitha Buddika
2/29, Jeevan Mendis 2/7, Dilruwan Perera 2/5)
The "Singer-MCA" Premier League Knock-out Trounament Semi-Finals will
be worked off this Sunday , June 4.
First semi final at NCC ground - HNB Vs. E-Wis : Match Referee :
Keerthi Gunaratne Second semi final at Bloomfield - Sampath Bank Vs.
Unichela. Match Referee: S. Illangakoon. Saturday June 10 has been set
aside as the reserve day for the semi finals if the teams fail to
complete the matches due to bad weather.
In the event of a no-result on both days, HNB No. 1 in the League
tourney and Sampath Bank ranked No.2 in the League will qualify to play
in the Final on June 18 at the NCC ground. |
