Sri Lanka tea exports increase by 40 per cent

TEA: Sri Lanka Tea Exports in April totalled a 20.1 m/kgs vis-a-vis 14.8 m/kgs during the corresponding month last year, an increase of 40 per cent.

Export earnings totalled a Rs. 5.6 billion vis-a-vis Rs. 4.1 billion during the corresponding month last year.

It would be significant to note that the total FOB value per kg during April 2006 is Rs. 270.04 vis-a-vis 276.28 in April 2005.

It would also be relevant to note that during April 2006 value added exports totalled 35% vis-a-vis 40% during the corresponding month last year.

During the cumulative period a total of 98.6 m/kgs have been exported vis-a-vis 87.9 during the same period last year. Exports earnings totalled Rs. 27.3 billion vis-a-vis Rs. 23.9 billion during the corresponding period last year.

In analysing the FOB values it is observed that with the exception for teas in packets and green teas, in all other categories FOB values have recorded an appreciation.
