Police to get tough on propaganda displays:
Cut-outs out after Nominations Day
THE display of all candidates' posters, banners,
billboards, cut-outs and propaganda material in public places will be
taboo from October 6 midnight, the eve of nominations day for the
November 17 Presidential Poll, the Police Elections Secretariat declared
yesterday.

Oil deposits will be used for developing whole
country - PM
PRIME MINISTER Mahinda Rajapakse taking part in the
"Subharathi" Programme of the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation aired
yesterday morning pledged to use the newly identified oil deposit in the
coastal belt for the economic uplift of the entire country, including
the war-torn North-East.

President to address UNESCO Conference in France
PRESIDENT Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga is
scheduled to address the 33rd session of the UNESCO General Conference
in Paris today. President Kumaratunga is one of the two World Leaders
invited to attend this year's conference.
