UN Habitat Scroll of Honour award for Sarvodaya
SARVODAYA Shramadana Movement has been honoured by the United Nations
for its outstanding humanitarian work after the tsunami of last
December.
The organisation has been presented the Habitat Scroll of Honour
award, a prize that is granted annually by the United Nations Human
Settlement Program for outstanding work in settlement and shelter, a
release said yesterday.
In an electronic letter dated September 7, Francisco Vasquez, the
World Habitat Day Coordinator of the programme, informed Dr. Vinya
Ariyaratne, Executive Director of Sarvodaya, of the honour.The decision
was made by a jury of experts on human settlement and urban development.
The award will be presented at a ceremony in Jakarta, Indonesia on
World Habitat Day today. |
